After 7 years, this former cricketer will once again unite with Team India on Sri Lanka tour
The Indian team is all set to begin it’s tour of Sri Lanka in July. Former India cricketer Rahul Dravid will once again join the team but as a coach on the tour next month. The Indian and Sri Lankan team will be playing a three-match ODI and T20I series during the tour. This is the second time Rahul Dravid will align with Team India’s senior team. In 2014, Dravid joined the team as the batting consultant on the tour of England.
“The Team India coaching staff will be in the UK and it is best that the young team is guided by Dravid as he has already worked with almost all of the India ‘A’ boys. The comfort the youngsters share with him will be an added advantage,” a BCCI official said.
Before taking over as the head of National Cricket Academy (NCA) in 2019, Dravid had worked closely with the youngsters of the Indian team at the U-19 level as well as in the India ‘A’ team. Under his supervision the Under-19 team of India became the runner-up of the World Cup in 2016 and the winner in 2018.
On July 5, Team India will reach Sri Lanka. Where three-match ODI series will be played between the two teams from 13-19 July and three-match T20I series will be played between 22-27 July. All the matches will be played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. India’s leading men Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah and Rohit Sharma are not playing on the tour of Sri Lanka as they are part of the England tour. In the absence of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan or Bhuvneshwar Kumar may lead the team.
