Team India gets good new before leaving for England tour
On June 2, Team India will leave for the tour of England, where the Indian team will play the World Test Championship final against New Zealand starting from June 18-22 and later play a five-match Test series against England. Ahead of their departure, the men’s and women’s team get good news from the British Government.
The players and support staff of both men’s and women’s cricket team will be able to bring their families along with them on the tour of England, a senior BCCI official informed on Tuesday. British government has approved BCCI’s request to allow the families of players and support staff on the tour given that they spend a considerable amount of time in a bio-secure bubble to ensure the safety of all during the pandemic
“Yes, it’s good news that players will have their families during the tour of UK. Ditto for the women’s team who can also have their families around. These are times when mental well-being of players is paramount,”
The BCCI understands that we need our players and support staff to be in a good head space,” the source told PTI.
However, it is also learnt that Sourav Ganguly and Jay Shah would not be able to attend the WTC final due to the stringent COVID protocols.
“As far as I know, the ECB didn’t grant permission to them (Ganguly and Shah). Normally, adminstrators go before the Test match but as per quarantine rules, since they are not playing members they would have had to undergo hard quarantine of 10 days,”
Both, Indian men’s and women’s teams will be leaving for Southampton once they reach London.
The women’s team is set to play their one-off Test in Bristol from June 16-19.
